LITACorp Helps Secure $8.8 Million in Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Funding for Louisiana Communities
Baton Rouge, LA — The Louisiana Infrastructure Technical Assistance Corporation (LITACorp) announced today that it played a major role in helping Louisiana communities secure $8,789,439 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program, a national initiative aimed at preventing roadway deaths and serious injuries.
In the most recent SS4A funding cycle, 11 Louisiana communities were awarded grants statewide. Through its Technical Assistance Program (TAP) and Matching Funds Grant Program (MFGP), LITACorp directly assisted 6 of those 11 communities, more than half of all awardees in the state, by providing hands-on grant development support and helping communities meet required local match obligations.
LITACorp led the grant writing efforts for the City of Baker ($160,000), Town of Oberlin ($217,600), and Town of Many ($304,000). In addition, LITACorp provided matching funds support to enable the City of Natchitoches ($5,707,839), Richland Parish ($1,200,000), and East Feliciana Parish ($1,200,000) to meet federal match requirements and submit competitive applications. LITACorp also provided matching funds support to the City of Baker, Town of Oberlin, and Town of Many as part of their successful submissions.
The SS4A program, created by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), is a competitive federal grant program designed to help communities develop and implement comprehensive strategies to reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries, improve roadway safety, and protect all users of the transportation system, including drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders.
“Too often, rural and small communities are unable to benefit from major federal funding opportunities because they don’t have the staff capacity or the resources to meet match requirements,” said Leslie Durham, Executive Director of LITACorp. “Helping secure nearly $9 million in transportation funding and supporting more than half of Louisiana’s SS4A awardees demonstrates exactly why LITACorp exists, and that is to ensure communities across the state can compete for and win federal infrastructure dollars.”
LITACorp was created by the Louisiana State Legislature to help political subdivisions compete for federal infrastructure funding made available under the IIJA. Through its Technical Assistance Program, LITACorp provides intensive support to help communities develop projects and prepare competitive applications. Through its Matching Funds Grant Program, LITACorp helps remove one of the biggest barriers to entry for federal grants by providing local match funding when communities need it most.
“These SS4A awards will translate into safer streets, better planning, and real, measurable improvements in quality of life for communities across Louisiana,” Durham added. “This is exactly the kind of outcome the Legislature envisioned when LITACorp was created—turning federal opportunities into real results for local communities.”
